They’re a great height for pre-schoolers to adults and are accessible for wheelchair users. Assembly is super easy and anyone can do it: all you need is a crescent wrench. You provide a garden hose and you’ll be washing hands in no time. Our second design principle is Affordability so schools, churches, clubs, and sports teams can get as many as they need. What schools needed was a wash station that could be used by many people at once. Our first solution started with a sheep trough. Jessica and our young neighbor worked all day cutting and preparing the pipe then Jessica soldered into the night. Lots more. The sheep trough was great but it was expensive and just flat out too long. A local construction firm donated four pieces of leftover, unused, 18 inch sewer pipe for the project. We cut it to length and then in half long-ways. The copper worked great but it had several big drawbacks: it was expensive; it was labor intensive to build; and it was an invitation to thieves. PVC was a great solution and would be easy to repair in the future, if needed. We began working on designs based on five design principals. After considering our needs we chose to use folded galvanized steel for the structure for it’s light weight, ease of cutting/forming, and durability. In Spring of 2025 as we sold out of stock of the original handwashing station we embarked on the design, prototyping, and revision of a new and improved unit! This new station is built around a vacuum formed plastic tub manufactured from a single piece of UV-resistant ABS. We added stainless steel legs and a fully TIG welded stainless steel manifold. It’s a huge improvement over the original: lighter, stronger, more durable, and can wash more hands than ever before! We’re excited to be offering this new station for sale starting in September 2025.
